Smiling goodbyes...

Do you realize that every time we say goodbye to each other, we smile? Does it mean "Thank god you're going." or "God damn, the view from the back is pumping blood into my other head." Maybe it's just polite and nice to see a smile before we part, but I seriously doubt it.
